Anthony Cudahy
Esker Foundation, Calgary, until April 26
This exhibition is inspired by considerations of how we experience and attempt to order time. It starts from a selection of works on paper in a series entitled Like Night Needs Morning. Figures—some drawn from Anthony Cudahy’s life, others anonymous or pulled from archival documents—engage in various activities. Certain details are precise, while others dissolve into washes of colour. The work below, Dusk and Dawn, shows two male figures, one in the light and one in the dark, separated by a wood- framed grid akin to Albrecht Dürer’s drawing frame used to render perspective. Here, it warps rather than orders.
