Moozhan Ahmadzadegan

SNAP Gallery, Edmonton, until Jun 20

Here, traditional art, including Persian miniatures, rugs, patterns, poetry and architecture, are seen through Iranian diaspora and queer lenses. Expectations of the traditional Persian carpet are disrupted through material choices and playfulness, scale and arrangement, and Persian miniatures are created using modern-day methods. In both cases, new voices and experiences are expressed within the traditions. Ahmadzadegan, originally from Kelowna, BC, is pursuing an MFA from the University of Victoria. He is interested in themes of cultural in-betweenness.
