Monday, August 17: Premier Danielle Smith and environment minister Grant Hunter release a joint statement responding to the repeal of the federal electric vehicle (EV) mandate. They call it a “clear victory for Albertans” alongside the cancelled federal oil and gas emissions cap, suspended clean electricity regulations (in Alberta) and streamlining of project reviews.

Tuesday, August 18: Elections Alberta says it still needs to fill a variety of roles to help with this October’s referendum and has asked for assistance from Elections BC and Elections Saskatchewan.
Wednesday, August 19: Alberta technology minister Nate Glubish hosts the first of the province’s town halls on AI data centres. Glubish is reportedly “jeered, badgered and booed” at the event in Lacombe. The town hall follows last month’s announcement that Meta plans to build a $13-billion AI data centre north of Edmonton.

Friday, August 21: In a leaked Treasury Board and Finance document, premier Danielle Smith and ministers are told not to promise another $100 energy rebate due to the risk that the Canada Revenue Agency might classify another such payment as taxable income.
