Monday, June 8: The Water Not Coal petition campaign to protect the Eastern Slopes from coal development, led by musician Corb Lund, announces it has reached the minimum number of signatures required under Alberta’s Citizen Initiative Act.

Tuesday, June 9: The Select Special Committee on Electoral Boundaries announces that Gerard Kennedy, Brent Robinson, Monte Solberg and Darwin Durnie have been appointed to the advisory panel that will review Alberta’s electoral boundaries. Two of these panelists were appointed by the UCP, two by the opposition NDP. The NDP says the UCP nominees, Solberg and Durnie, are in conflicts of interests.

Wednesday, June 10: Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services, announces she has halted the rebranding of Emergency Health Services to ALTA Paramedic Health. Critics said it was a costly and wasteful exercise that ignored real issues facing Alberta’s emergency departments.

June 11: Rick Wilson, Minister for Mental Health and Addiction, announces that his government will close the supervised consumption site at Calgary’s Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre effective June 30.

Friday, June 12: The all-seasons resort branch of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport conditionally approves the return of Fortress Mountain ski resort. The Fortress Mountain master plan proposes a year-round site that would include skiing, hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing, glamping and ziplining.
